Oklahoma home daycare ratios by age

Verified August 31, 2026

Oklahoma writes home capacity as a sliding age mix for one caregiver: 7 children when at most 2 are under age two, 6 when 3 are under two, and smaller groups as infants dominate. A Large Family Child Care Home runs 8 to 12 children with its own rows and a hard 12 ceiling. The provider's own children under five count everywhere.

How Oklahoma defines the age bands

  • Infant (birth up to 12 months): 0 to 12 months
  • Toddler (12 through 23 months): 12 to 24 months
  • Children younger than 2 years of age: 0 to 24 months
  • 2 years of age and older: 24 to open months
  • Younger than 3 years (complement of '3 years of age and older'): 0 to 36 months
  • Younger than 4 years (complement of '4 years of age and older'): 0 to 48 months
  • Younger than 5 years (complement of '5 years of age and older'): 0 to 60 months

Mixed ages in one room

The bands that matter are under two and everyone else; the publication also defines infant and toddler for program rules, but the capacity rows all pivot on the under-two count.

Real questions, short answers

How many babies can one Oklahoma caregiver have?

The mix table caps a full group of 7 at 2 children under age two; with 3 under two the total falls to 6, and mostly-infant groups get smaller still, per OAC 340:110-3-84(b).

Do 12 kids ever fit in a home?

Only in a licensed Large Family Child Care Home, which is statutorily 8 to 12 children, per 10 O.S. 402 and OAC 340:110-3-97.1.

Do the provider's own children count in the mixes?

Own children under age 5 count toward the totals on both tiers.
